The Band
Four people behind the descent.
Decessus is a Chilean progressive death metal band, formed in Santiago in 2020. Its name comes from Latin and means “descent” or “fall” — the existential, shadowed tone that runs through everything they make.
What began as a university project rose fast through the underground for its technical craft and, above all, for the magnetic contrast between its vocalist’s elegant image and the brutality of her guttural voice on stage.
Led by Ignacia Fernández, the band turns death metal into a vehicle for what most prefer to silence: the climate crisis, animal cruelty and mental health. Beauty and brutality in the same breath.

Themes
Climate crisis
Razed forests, skies of smoke, machines that never stop. “Dark Flames” is the portrait of an earth set ablaze by our own hand.
Animal cruelty
The top-hatted vulture that represents us is both carrion and witness. We speak for the species with no voice in the room where their extinction is decided.
Mental health
“The Hollow Descent” is the fall inward. Extreme metal as a safe place to name anguish instead of hiding it.
